After seeing so many entries posted for our traditional kueh theme, which are all very pretty and colourful, I feel a bit embarrassed about posting my plain plain kueh.
Bloggers here have again set another difficult theme for me, who hardly know how to make kueh. Few years ago, I did tried Ang Koo Kueh and Min Jiang Kueh before.
This time I was trying to find something easy to start with. So I tried Ellena's Ji Dan Gao. It uses the tradtional way of making using fizzy drinks like cream soda, 7-Up or Sprite. While it is very soft and spongy, I feel like it is the same as any sponge cake. I wonder if I got it correct.
With only less than 2 weeks left, I hope I have the time to make nicer kuehs.
I am submitting this Ji Dao Gao to Aspiring Bakers #12: Traditional Kueh (October 2011), hosted by Small Small Baker.
蛋糕看起来很绵很好吃呢!

Wowow SSB your steamed egg cake look great! Yup the texture is fine, soft and spongy like sponge cake i guess. A bit diff from outside the dense type which is thick and cake like. If you like colourful, you can drop some dried fruits or raisin in it too :p
ReplyDelete喜欢你这蛋糕的颜色和组织:)
ReplyDeletethe texture of this cake is so soft, I like it!
ReplyDeleteSSB, dear, u make me wanna bake for this month theme :)

I have one recipe of this 鸡蛋糕 from my mum. And its pretty easy and delicious, without any of those soda. Maybe you can have a look at it...:)
ReplyDeleteReese: I found your 鸡蛋糕. It opens up so nicely. Thanks for the recommendation! :)
ReplyDeleteyou have reminded me of my childhood, my mom used to do this ji dan gao for us as it is simple, cheaper and off course nice to eat with a cup of milo...:)
ReplyDeletebookmark this to try out soon...
feel disappointed for not able to make it on time to submit the kuehs to participate in the Oct theme, hope can take part in the coming one...^^
Sherleen: I also notice this ji dan gao reminds a lot of people of their grandmother or mother making them. Now it's our turn to make something for them to eat. :) It's ok, can join us anytime. I'm sure you will have lots to contribute this month. :)
